You were promoted to engineering manager. Nobody trained you for the job.

EM Accelerator is the annual membership that gives you the playbook, the templates, and the room of working engineering managers you should have had on day one.

Join EM Accelerator, £699

Launch price. Normally £1,199. Renewal locked at £499 for life.

14-day full refund if it is not for you.

Engineering leaders from these companies have endorsed Ryan's work or feature in the membership.

Section 03 / The problem

The job changed.
The training did not.

You got promoted because you were a strong engineer. From day one, the job is something else entirely.

Difficult one-to-ones. Underperformance you have to actually handle. A skip-level who wants a roadmap by Friday. A staff engineer who quietly thinks you are now the problem.

You are not bad at this. You were never taught it. Every mistake you make has a price: a good engineer who quits, a project that misses, a year of your career you cannot have back.

Section 04 / What it is

EM Accelerator is the operating system for engineering managers.

One annual membership. Three things that work together.

A structured course that walks you through the role from start to finish. Live monthly office hours with Ryan and the rest of the cohort, so the questions you cannot ask at work get answered. A private community of working engineering managers, where Ryan replies every working day.

It is what a good first manager would have given you, if you had been lucky enough to have one.

Section 05 / Inclusions

What you get for £699.

01 · Course

The EM Playbook.
Seven self-paced video modules.

The full curriculum, on-demand. Watch it once front to back, then return to the modules you need on the week you need them.

  1. 01 The Role You've Really Taken On
  2. 02 Start With The People
  3. 03 Mastering 1:1s
  4. 04 Prioritise, Focus, Delegate
  5. 05 Communicate Like A Leader
  6. 06 Avoiding Common EM Mistakes
  7. 07 Your Personal Operating System

Worksheets and templates included · Certificate of completion when you finish.

02 · Continuous

Monthly deep-dives and live office hours.

One in-depth article every month on a problem most managers face but rarely talk about.

One live office hours call every month, with Ryan, where you can bring your actual situation and get a real answer in front of other managers who are working through the same things.

03 · Community

The community, and Ryan in it every working day.

A private peer community of working engineering managers. Ryan replies in the community every working day.

You do not have to schedule a call to ask a question. You post, you get an answer, you keep going.

04 · Interviews

The Expert Interview Library.

Long-form, unfiltered interviews with engineering leaders from companies most engineers know. The library grows every month and is included in your membership.

Section 06 / Who is teaching this

Who is teaching this.

I am Ryan Murphy. I have spent nearly 20 years in software, the last half-decade of them building and leading engineering teams at Yelp.

I am on the programme committee for LeadDev, two years running. I am a top-rated instructor at Dometrain, six courses in, all rated above 4.8. I have spoken at LeadDev and CTO Craft. More than 80,000 engineers and engineering managers follow what I write across LinkedIn, YouTube and my newsletter.

EM Accelerator is the thing I wish someone had handed me on the Monday morning I became a manager. I built it because I kept seeing the same talented engineer get promoted, get no support, and burn out inside eighteen months. That is a fixable problem. This is the fix.

From the room

What people are actually saying.

It's never been a more exciting time to be an engineering manager. Or a more challenging one. Ryan offers a complete leadership package with insights, tools, and community support you won't get from onboarding. He's been in the EM trenches long enough to be your best guide to mastering this difficult role.

I’ve known Ryan for a long time, and if you’re an engineer stepping into leadership, or trying to do it better, you should be talking to him. He’s that rare combination: an excellent engineering manager and a genuinely great coach. He doesn’t lecture. He helps you think clearly about your situation and figure out what to do next. If you’re considering coaching to level up as a manager, I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Ryan’s work has weight. He writes about engineering management with practical clarity and hard-won judgment. Trust, feedback, ambiguity, tension, the decisions no framework can make for you. If his EM Accelerator carries the same honesty as his writing, it will be worth serious attention.

Ryan Murphy’s insights are valuable for any engineer looking to level up. Unlike many industry voices, his background as an Engineering Manager allows him to bridge the gap between technical execution and leadership.

Ryan’s content feels very real and honest: actual day-to-day engineering leadership experience, not just high-level theory. I really appreciate how openly he shares challenges, lessons learned, and vulnerable moments while staying practical and relevant to what engineering managers deal with today.

Section 08 / Is this for you

Is this for you.

This is for you if:
  • You are a newly promoted engineering manager and the role feels harder than the job ad implied.
  • You are a mid-career or experienced EM who has been figuring it out alone and is tired of guessing.
  • You are a senior engineer or tech lead seriously considering the move into management.
This is not for you if:
  • You want a certificate to put on LinkedIn and no real work behind it.
  • You are looking for project management training. This is people leadership for software teams.
  • You want a one-off coaching call. For 1:1 coaching, see the separate coaching page.
Section 09 / Expense it

Most members expense this through their company learning and development budget.

If you have an L&D budget at work, this is precisely what it is for. Most members expense the full £699 through their employer.

There is a pre-written email you can send your manager. It explains what EM Accelerator is, what the company gets back, and what it costs. You forward it, your manager approves it, you get reimbursed.

Join EM Accelerator, £699

One payment. One year of full access. Full refund inside 14 days if you change your mind.

Section 11 / Guarantee

The 14-day guarantee.

Join, watch the first module, sit in on an office hours call, read the community for two weeks. If it is not the membership I describe on this page, email me inside fourteen days and you get every penny back. No form. No interview. No "what didn't work for you". Just the refund.

Section 12 / FAQ

Honest answers to the questions you are about to ask.

I have only been a manager for a few weeks. Will I be out of my depth?

No. Module 01 is built for the first 90 days. You will be ahead of where most managers are at six months by the time you finish it.

I have been a manager for years. Is there anything in here for me?

Yes. The deep-dives, the interviews and the community are the highest-leverage parts of the membership for experienced managers. The course is the part newer EMs lean on hardest.

How much time do I need to put in?

The course is roughly 8 to 12 hours, watched at your pace. Office hours is one hour a month. The community is as much or as little as you choose. Members who get the most out of it spend about an hour a week.

Is this only for managers at big tech companies?

No. Members work at start-ups, scale-ups, agencies, consultancies and enterprises across the UK, US, Canada, Australia and Ireland. The work of management is the same in all of them.

Can I get my company to pay?

Most members do. There is a manager email template above. The membership is well inside the price band most engineering organisations approve without escalation.

What happens when my year is up?

You renew at £499 per year, for as long as you stay a member. That rate never rises on you. If you cancel, you cancel. No clawback, no penalty.

Will I have access to Ryan directly?

Yes. In the community, every working day. The separate 1:1 coaching tier exists for people who want scheduled private sessions. Membership gives you Ryan in the community, not on a private call.

What if I have already taken courses on management?

Most members have. They tell me the difference is the community and the office hours, where the advice meets their actual situation, not a hypothetical one.

Section 13 / Decide

You have been doing this on hard mode.

You can keep figuring it out, one expensive mistake at a time. Or you can join a room of engineering managers who are figuring it out together, with someone who has done the job and trained others to do it well.

The launch price is £699. That ends when the first cohort closes. Your renewal stays at £499 for life. If it is not for you, you get fourteen days to walk away with all of your money.
